About ANZ
The Australia and New Zealand Banking Group Limited, commonly known as ANZ Bank, is a multinational banking and financial services company headquartered in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. ANZ is dedicated to fostering a culture of giving back to the community through various workplace giving programs. Their mission is to help shape a world where people and communities thrive. The Challenge
ANZ faced several challenges related to employee engagement, community involvement, and the effectiveness of their giving programs. One of the key issues identified was the need to better connect their employees, especially their graduate cohort, with the communities they serve. ANZ needed a way to integrate their graduates into the broader mission while also providing them with meaningful opportunities to contribute.
Another challenge was enhancing awareness and participation in ANZ's workplace giving programs, particularly among new joiners.
The Solution
To address these challenges, ANZ launched the ANZ Community Graduate Initiative, a workplace giving program specifically designed to engage new graduates in community activities and fundraising efforts. This innovative initiative involved strategic problem-solving and unique ideas to capture the interest and commitment of new employees. The initiative encouraged graduates to participate in and develop meaningful campaign projects with community organisations, thereby fostering a deeper connection with the company's mission. The most promising ideas were developed into plans, with graduates leading its implementation at ANZ’s Purpose Marketplace Event.
The initiative was also designed to foster a sense of community within ANZ, using collective fundraising efforts through the Shout for Good platform to unite employees around a shared cause. Ultimately, this project aimed to create a more engaged, aware, and connected workforce while making a tangible difference in the communities ANZ serves.
The Results
The implementation of the ANZ Community Graduate Initiative significantly boosted awareness of workplace giving. The introduction of the ANZ Purpose Marketplace showcased graduate-led initiatives, capturing employees' attention, and fostering a deeper connection to ANZ's community programs. This visibility led to a 39% increase in workplace giving payroll, reflecting heightened employee engagement and commitment in reoccurring donations.
Additionally, the positive feedback from employees highlighted a greater appreciation for the giving programs, indicating a stronger awareness and involvement. The success of fundraising efforts, with over $30,000 raised through the Shout for Good platform, further $11,000 in in-kind donations underscore the increased recognition and support for workplace giving initiatives. A 40% rise in volunteering leave was recorded, further indicating the initiative's impact on employees' willingness to engage in charitable activities.
By integrating graduates into the design and implementation of these programs, ANZ not only enriched the initiatives but also amplified their impact, demonstrating the effectiveness of ANZ's approach in elevating workplace giving awareness.
